The Devonshire: Soho’s Classic Pub Meets Elevated Grill Comfort

Looking for timeless British charm paired with standout pub‑grub finesse? Say hello to The Devonshire in Soho, a warm, inviting neighbourhood boozer turned hot-ticket dining destination

Downstairs, the pub welcomes anyone and everyone with that true‑to‑Soho warmth—homemade bar snacks from its in‑house butcher and bakery, and, of course, a pint of Guinness served to perfection. Upstairs, the Scene shifts. In the wood‑ember grill restaurant, you’ll find dry‑aged Scottish beef butchered onsite, day‑boat fish, Devon lobster, and hand‑dived scallops – each charmed by that glowing, smoky grill. Everything’s bursting with flavour.

Let’s talk food

The ingredients at The Devonshire are confidently top-tier – Simple yet premium, and exquisitely handled. Even the fresh bread to begin, with home made butter, sets the scene and we just love the elegance of dining like this with everyone having a pint of Guiness on the side. Each dish arrives hearty, honest, and elevated just enough.

Some dishes you need to try:

  • Beef & Guinness Suet Pudding
  • Scallops with bacon in malt vinegar
  • Duck‑fat chips
  • Pea and Ham Soup

Here are some of the photos we took on our visit:

Come here for the starters with a pint of Guiness! – I highly recommend the pea and ham soup and the scallops with bacon and malt vinegar! The mains were ok but I have to say, it’s such an inviting place to come back to, that i might be tempted to come back and try again. – Josh

If you’re after authentic British comfort with thoughtful execution—not just steak and chips, but drying-aged beef, wood‑fired grills, buttery suet puddings, refined seafood, and perfectly creamy Guinness—then you absolutely need to book a table at The Devonshire.

The Menu

Venue and Vibes

The downstairs pub feels classic and robust—mahogany paneling, soft brass, snug banquettes, and a non‑content‑creating atmosphere where the emphasis is on genuine company and conviviality. Upstairs, the Grill Room and Claret Room offer calm, generous seating with warm lighting, a wood-fired hearth, and staff who know their menu inside out.

This isn’t just dinner—it’s a Soho revival in hospitality form: nostalgic, sociable, and effortlessly elevated.

The Devonshire is a gem for those craving a refined yet cosy British pub experience in the heart of London. Great ingredients, elevated comfort, and an ambiance that pulls you in—it’s truly one of the capital’s most inviting restaurant pubs.
