Moka: Modern Indian Dining in Northwood

Located in Northwood, Moka offers a contemporary twist on traditional Indian cuisine, providing a dining experience that blends rich flavours with modern culinary techniques.

Inspired by the state banquets of India’s past, featuring legacy recipes infused with subtle, complex flavours, featuring dishes such as Dilliwala Butter Chicken and Murgh Dum Biriyani showcase the restaurant’s commitment to authenticity and innovation. An extensive drinks menu complements their food offerings and private hire options are available for special occassions

Let’s talk food

The fusion of traditional recipes with modern presentation results in a menu that delights the senses. Josh and myself (Nino) have very mixed reviews on this place, which is so interesting. Whilst Josh really enjoyed his food in Moka, sadly I thought it was quite disappointing.

Here are some of the photos we took on our visit:

Standout dish would be the Paneer Kurchan Tacos but you have to order dessert… The Paan Kulfi is to die for and we’d make more trips for this alone!

Nino & Josh

As it had mixed reviews, this might be a place you try for yourself to make your own mind. There’s a great selection on their menu so we haven’t tried everything and you can tell that Moka is highly ambitious to push boundaries.

The Menu

Venue and Vibes

The venue itself is a highlight, especially the floral ceiling, makes this place great for special occassions or a romantic date night. The interior is designed to provide a comfortable and engaging environment for diners and a stunning location for drinks which is great to follow up on the dancefloor.

Moka stands out as a premier dining destination in Northwood, offering a fusion of Indian and Indo-Chinese flavours. Its diverse menu, skilled chefs, and inviting atmosphere make it a must-visit for those seeking a unique culinary experience, according to Josh. The service is always great, drinks are lovely (mocktails and cocktails), desserts are insanely good but the food, we couldn’t agree on. I didn’t enjoy the food here (other than their amazing desserts) however Josh did. Give them a visit and let us know your thoughts!

Alice House: A Chic West Hampstead Gastropub with a Twist

Nestled in the heart of West Hampstead, Alice House offers a stylish setting, hosting modern British cuisine and expertly crafted cocktails. Perfect for brunches, date nights, or post-work drinks..

The menu comes across seasonal, with ingredients locally sourced from hearty brunch plates to indulgent mains and sharing platters, there’s something for everyone. The bar is equally impressive, featuring an array of cocktails, fine wines, and craft beers.

Let’s talk food

The menu at Alice House takes traditional British pub fare with a contemporary twist, however we found the food to be quite bland and the mash potato was left cold which could be more of an issue with the service or communication.

Here are some of the photos we took on our visit:

This is a place that could be good for most people but unfortunately when we went, we had a negative experience. Not only was the food left cold, but when we highlighted it to the waitress she just took the food and walked away. Our best dish was the dessert – Apple & Pear Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream

Nino & Josh

The Menu

Venue and Vibes

With its blend of rustic charm and contemporary elegance, Alice House has a cosy yet polished vibe. Exposed brick walls, warm lighting, and vintage-inspired furniture create a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re seated by the bar or in a comfy booth, it’s easy to feel at home here.

Alice House is definitely a great place for after-work drinks, having a casual date (we even went to an engagement party there) and the atmosphere is rustic yet modern. Our only let down was the attention to detail on the food. They have all the right ideas but possibly certain members of staff are missing the mark when it comes to speed and service.
