10. Namaste Lounge
Namaste Lounge in Northwood has earned the 10th spot in our top 10 restaurants to visit in 2021, offering a modern twist on classic Indian cuisine. This award-winning establishment features a spacious shisha lounge, private dining spaces, and a cocktail bar with a diverse menu that caters to various dietary preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options, ensuring a delightful dining experience for all guests.
9. Harry’s Bar and Restaurant
Harry’s Bar in Mayfair, London, has secured the 9th spot, offering an exclusive dining experience renowned for its Italian cuisine. Established in 1979, this private members’ club known for its unflashy opulence, serving some of the most exquisite and unique dishes in London. We loved the decor which was designed by Nina Campbell, featuring cartoons from The New Yorker by Peter Arno and fabrics by Mariano Fortuny, creating a warm and informal atmosphere reminiscent of its Venetian namesake.
This place has attracted praise from notable figures such as Giorgio Armani and Valentino, further cementing its status as a distinguished dining destination.
8. Hutong, The Shard
Hutong at The Shard has earned the 8th spot, offering an exceptional Northern Chinese dining experience with panoramic views of London. Situated on level 33 of The Shard, Hutong is renowned for its authentic cuisine inspired by the imperial palaces of Peking, so of course their Peking duck is a must order.
7. Roka
ROKA Charlotte Street has secured the 7th position, offering an exceptional modern Japanese dining experience in Fitzrovia, renowned for its robatayaki cuisine, an ancient Japanese method of charcoal grilling. Signature dishes include expertly prepared sushi and the famed black cod, which have been described as ‘perfectly good’ for the price.
Whether for a special occasion or a casual night out, ROKA provides a memorable dining experience that continues to impress both new and returning patrons.
6. Amaya, Knightsbridge
Amaya in Knightsbridge takes 6th place on our list for its modern take on Indian cuisine, blending traditional flavours with fine dining flare. Opened in 2004, it quickly earned a Michelin star for its unique grill-focused menu, featuring signature dishes like succulent lamb chops, delicate scallops, and some of the best paneer. With its open kitchen, stylish décor, and consistently high-quality food, Amaya is ideal for both special occasions and those looking to experience Indian dining at its finest.
5. The Ivy Asia
The Ivy Asia, located in various locations but this one was in St Pauls, has secured the 5th spot in our top 10 restaurants to visit in 2021. This restaurant offers a unique Pan-Asian dining experience with an interior decor like no other. Signature dishes include the Black Cod Miso, known for its buttery texture and caramelised glaze, and their sushi platters which offer some of the most theatrical asian experiences we’ve seen. The Ivy Asia is perfect for group celebrations, sushi aficionados, and those seeking a vibrant atmosphere in a central location.
4. Kenton Cafe
Kenton Lane Café, a cherished family-run establishment in Harrow, has earned our 4th spot. Celebrating its 10th anniversary during lockdown, this café is renowned for its unique breakfasts that blend traditional British favourites with an Indian twist. A standout order is the ‘Full Hinglish’ breakfast, which features masala beans, spicy hash browns, pickles, and paratha flatbread in place of toast, accompanied by sautéed cherry tomatoes with garlic and egg bhurji, all complemented by masala chai tea.
The café’s cosy atmosphere and friendly staff make it an ideal spot for breakfast enthusiasts seeking a unique culinary experience in North West London.
3. Wingmans
As much as it’s difficult to get a table, Wingmans, with locations in Kilburn and Soho, has clinched the 3rd, thanks to its exceptional chicken dishes and vibrant atmosphere. Established in 2015, Wingmans quickly gained a reputation for serving some of London’s best chicken wings, earning awards and a loyal customer base.
Signature offerings include their classic Buffalo wings, Korean BBQ wings, and the indulgent truffle mac ‘n’ cheese. The restaurant’s lively ambiance, coupled with a menu that caters to both traditional and adventurous palates, making it an ideal destination for casual dining, group outings, or anyone seeking a flavour-packed meal in a fun setting.
2. OXO Tower
The OXO Tower Restaurant, perched atop the historic OXO Tower on London’s South Bank, offers diners panoramic views of the Thames alongside a menu of modern British cuisine. Originally built as a power station in the 1920s, to then being transformed into a dining spot in 1996 by Harvey Nichols.
As this was our very first date venue, we couldn’t praise their signature dishes anymore with their roasted duck breast and juicy lobster. With a majestic view of London, the OXO Tower Restaurant is perfect for special occasions or a stylish night out.
1. Akira
Akira, located within Japan House on Kensington High Street, has earned the top spot in our 2021 restaurant rankings for its exceptional Japanese dining experience. Established in 2018, Akira is the creation of Executive Chef Shimizu Akira, who emphasises the ‘trinity of cooking’ principles: food, tableware, and presentation.
Signature Japanese dishes always bring out the best in flavour but with Akira’s authenticity of Bento boxes and melt-in-the-mouth Wagyu cooked over their hot stones, take this experience to a new level which we’ll never forget. The restaurant’s minimalist design, combined with its commitment to authentic Japanese cuisine, makes it a must-visit destination for those seeking an unparalleled dining experience in London.
